The Other Side (Alastor Husk's Song) | Hazbin Hotel

As his name implies, Husk is a self-hating "husk" of his former self; he was formally a starry-eyed optimist who loved to travel, see the world, and had a fascination with magic, but claims to have "lost the ability to love" long ago and has become passionless outside of his love for gambling, magic, and drinking. He is secretly insecure in ways that are implied to relate to this, and desperately needs validation. He can always be found drinking, and often acts as a shoulder to cry on for the other members of the hotel, and is usually the voice of reason when patients consult them with their problems. He is the "sad" kind of drunk who laments his life choices and circumstances while under the influence. He is lazy, rarely doing anything productive with his afterlife outside of gambling, drinking, or watching TV.

The development of Alastor's character was rather infamous during the development of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light. Originally, Alastor was meant to be the main antagonist of the entire series, starting out as a protagonist, before slowly becoming an antagonist and the main villain as the series progressed. His role in the original version was similar to the final version in nearly every way; although the original version of Alastor was much less sympathetic, as he never grew to truly bond with the hotel's patients and staff, and his end goal was simply to take over Heaven and Hell, rather than to reunite with his mother. Throughout the story, Alastor would develop a "will they or won't they?" type of relationship with Charlie Magne, with Alastor attempting to woo her numerous times, wanting her to rule Heaven and Hell by his side, in stark contrast to the original Hazbin Hotel and finalized version of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light, where Alastor is an aromantic asexual. In one planned scene, Alastor and Charlie traveled to Earth together disguised as humans and danced over a frozen lake as Alastor confessed to Charlie that he had lost the ambition to take over the world, and simply wanted to spend the rest of his afterlife by Charlie's side (illustrated in the deleted song, "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire").

Despite seeing her operation as a joke, Alastor actively assists Charlie and the hotel crew with their endeavors, with the Radio Demon and the Princess of Hell developing a complex friendship over time, and although it is clear that the Radio Demon is only helping her to manipulate her and see the hotel's patients break down when they fail to redeem themselves, there does seem to be a degree of legitimacy to their friendship. Alastor often goes out of his way to cheer Charlie up whenever she becomes upset, as he hates to see her frown, and at one point offered to make her tea when he walked in on her crying to herself, and offered to teach whoever made her cry a lesson. When Alastor noticed that Charlie became upset when Fergus implied that he would not be accepting her invitation to join the hotel's redemption program, he pulled Fergus aside and essentially threatened to murder him if he turned down Charlie's offer, which caused Fergus to rethink his choice and join Charlie's operation, which brought the princess great joy. Charlie and Alastor also bond over their love for music by collaborate on and performing songs. 041b061a72
